Angiotensin is a polypeptide vasopressor hormone formed by the catalytic action of renin on renin substrate. Angiotensin I, a decapeptide cleaved from renin substrate, serves mainly as a precursor to angiotensin II. Angiotensin II, an octapeptide cleaved from angiotensin I by angiotensin I converting enzyme I (ACE I), is biologically active as a vasopressor, regulator of fluid in the kidneys and regulator of aldosterone secretion by the adrenal cortex. Inhibitory angiotensin/renin peptides are available. Angiotensin II antipeptide is 50% homologous to angiotensin II and is antagonistic to angiotensin II actions. Also available are angiotensin I converting enzyme inhibitor (ACE I Inhibitor) and renin inhibitor peptide. | ||||
